Sometimes a user creates an applicant account in EZLynx as a Personal Applicant when it should be listed as a Commercial Applicant. Please note: Only agencies with the EZLynx Management System can create Commercial Applicant accounts. Use our tips below for successfully switching the account from Personal to Commercial. 


First, verify that the following are NOT present on the Personal Applicant account:

  • Risk Info for Quoting 
    • This is the EZLynx Rating Engine for Auto, Home, or Dwelling Fire only.
  • Manual Applications 
  • Quotes (Manual, Consumer Quoting, or Rating types) 
    • Users can store quotes from the EZLynx Rating Engine, the Consumer Quoting system, and as a Manual quote to track commercial business. 


If any of the above are present, then take the following steps to ensure you don't lose the data. If you have none of the above, then skip to Create a New Commercial Applicant below.


Rating & Manual Applications

  • To keep this data:
    • Locate the applicant's Overview screen, and then the Applications tab
    • At the right of the applications, click the blue Actions link and select Convert to Policy.
      • Enter dummy data and Save the policy.
    • IMPORTANT: Doing this pre-fills the policy with all the coverage, driver and vehicle info entered on the applications. Later, we'll show you how to Convert this to a Manual Application so you can pre-fill ACORD forms to submit to carriers for quoting.


Quotes (Manual, Consumer Quoting, or Rating Engine types)

At this time, there is not a way to save this data to the new customer file. We recommend adding a note with the pertinent information you want to keep on file for the customer.

  • Some tips for adding the note:
    • At Discussion Title, enter something like Previously Submitted Quotes for Line of Business (whatever the quoted LOB was). The idea here is to make this easy to find in the future.
    • At Note, enter info about the carriers quoted with the premium returned. 
    • Add a Task if any follow-up action needs to be taken on the quote.
    • Add a Label called Quote (you can name it whatever makes sense to you).
      • Only admins can create custom labels. Contact support@ezlynx.com for setup questions.
    • Select a Policy if you want it associated with the quote details listed on the note.
    • Save when done.
    • This note will merge with the new customer file you will create. 


Create a new Commercial Applicant

Since there is not a way to simply switch the account type between Personal and Commercial, you will need to create a new commercial applicant and then merge the accounts together in a specific way to maintain the account type. 

  • Hover over the Applicants icon and select Create Commercial Applicant.
  • Use the Details from the Personal Applicant to enter the address and any contact info.
  • Click Create and confirm that all the Details data from the Personal Applicant is entered here on the new Commercial Applicant Details tab.
  • Save when done.


Merge the Applicant Accounts

IMPORTANT: You MUST start with the Commercial Applicant account when you go to merge the accounts. See our Merging, Deleting, & Restoring Customer Accounts for next steps! 


OPTIONAL: Convert the Dummy Policies to Applications

If you had Risk Info for Quoting or Manual Applications on the Personal Applicant account and you followed our steps above to convert them to policies, then you can convert them back to Manual Applications.

  • Locate the dummy policy, and click the blue Actions link on the right.
  • Select Create Application.
    • Confirm the info and Save Application.
    • Click Save and Close.
  • Delete the dummy policy:
    • Click the blue Actions link to the right of the policy, and select Delete
    • If you don't have this option, contact support@ezlynx.com. 
  • IMPORTANT: Doing this keeps all the coverage info on the applications to pre-fill ACORD forms if you need to submit them to carriers for quoting.
